Trauma-Informed Practice
At BrightPath, we recognise that many children and young people have experienced adversity, loss or disrupted relationships that can affect how they think, feel and behave. Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?", we ask, "What has happened to you and how can we help?" This trauma-informed approach helps us understand behaviour in context while recognising every young person's strengths and potential.
Our mentors build safe, trusting and consistent relationships, creating an environment where young people feel respected, listened to and supported. We work flexibly and at each young person's pace, understanding that progress often happens through small, meaningful steps.
Choice, collaboration and empowerment are central to our approach. Young people are actively involved in setting goals and shaping their mentoring programme, helping them develop confidence, independence and a greater sense of control over their lives.
By combining trauma-informed practice with evidence-based psychological approaches, including the DNA-V model, we support young people to build resilience, psychological flexibility and practical life skills. Our goal is not only to overcome challenges, but to help every young person create a bigger, more meaningful lives, with improved wellbeing, stronger relationships and greater opportunities for the future.
